Talking Drum

The talking drum (aka dondo, adondo, atumpan, or gan gan) is a variable pitch pressure drum has been used for centuries as a tool for communication within and between West African rural communities. By squeezing and beating the drum simultaneously the dondo can be made to mimic the syllables and intonations of human speech. Our authentic talking drums are made in Northern Ghana, and make a wonderful addition to any drum circle or percussion group. Irie Tones dondos are backed up by our warranty, and feature:

  • individual inspection and testing - we won't sell it if it doesn't sound good
  • solid one-piece construction
  • strong leather verticals with goat skin head
  • handcarved, curved beater included
  • basic playing and care instructions, and a brief history of the dondo
