Dunun
The dunun family of drums (aka djun djun or dun dun) developed simultaneously with the djembe in West Africa,
and provides the rhythmic and melodic base for the djembe ensemble. This
family of double-headed, cylindrical, rope-tension drums consists of the
doundoumba (largest), sangban (medium), and kenkeni (smallest). Irie Tones
dunun drums can be bought separately or as a set, and are covered by our
warranty.
They all feature:
- individual inspection and testing - we won't sell it if it doesn't
sound good
- solid one-piece construction using Masonia, a legally harvested tropical
drum wood
- natural
look, treated with at least 3 coats of coconut oil to hydrate and beautify wood
- new cow
skin on both sides, hair left on to mellow the sound and
for protection
- new, extra-strong synthetic rope, excellent for high-tension drums
- crown rings wrapped in cloth for long rope life
- basic playing and care instructions,
and a brief history
of the djun djun
- each bearing edge coated with wax to protect and seal the wood
- tapered wood beater with small handle included with each drum
