Apitua
The apitua (ah-PEE-too-ah), also known as the banana , toke, or atoke
bell, is a two-piece instrument used to accompany West African djembe ensembles.
The bell is shaped like a canoe, and can either be played on a djun djun
by slipping it through the vertical ropes, or by hand. Iron striker included
with bell. Covered by our warranty, the apitua features:
- 3 sizes sold together as a set: large is about 12 inches, medium is about 9 inches, and small is about 7 inches
- hand forged from iron by expert blacksmiths in Togo
- clear, crisp tones that are easily heard when the ensemble is playing
