African Balafon
Our imported balafons (BAL-a-fone) are hand crafted with sound quality and durability in mind in West Africa. Also known as the balaphone, balafone, African marimba, and xylophone, the balafon is a chromatic keyed instrument played with two to four mallets. The gourd placed below each key (or blade) amplifies the sounds, and each key is tuned by thinning the middle of the bar. The balafon is a lot of fun to play, even if you don't have a lot of experience, and is a great addition to any drum ensemble or classroom percussion collection. Covered by our satisfaction guarantee, each balafon features:
- Heat dried keys to help maintain tonality and prevent cracking
- Solid construction using hardwood, leather, and rope
- Two mallets included with each balafon
